This policy explains how we handle information when you use the Houseparty app and playhouseparty.com.
Information we collect
Account information includes the email address or phone number you use to sign in, authentication identifiers, and information supplied by a sign-in provider if you choose one. We use Clerk to authenticate accounts. We also store your player name, avatar and customization choices, game progress, results, and multiplayer room information. When you contact us, we receive the information you send.
Our services and providers process technical information such as IP address, browser and device details, operating system, connection activity, and error logs. We use PostHog for product analytics, including player identifiers and names, game interactions, page visits, active time, and errors. Our current analytics configuration disables session recordings.
How we use information
We use information to sign you in, save your profile and progress, connect multiplayer games, show results, troubleshoot problems, protect the service, answer support requests, and understand and improve the experience.
Information shared with others
Players you play with may see your player name, avatar, game actions and results. Anyone who receives an invite link or code may be able to join its associated game. Multiplayer connections may use direct peer-to-peer networking, which can expose connection information, including IP addresses, to another participant.
We use service providers for authentication (Clerk), analytics (PostHog), hosting and networking (including Vercel and Cloudflare), and database storage (including Neon). These providers process information to provide their services, subject to their applicable terms and privacy protections. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the service, or as part of a business transfer. We use Resend to deliver messages submitted through the privacy contact form.
Cookies and device storage
We use cookies and browser or device storage to maintain sessions, remember preferences and game state, and support analytics. Clearing storage can sign you out or remove locally saved preferences. Browser controls can limit cookies and storage, but some features may stop working.
Retention and deletion
We retain information as needed to operate the service, maintain your account and game progress, address security issues, and meet legal obligations. Retention varies by data type and provider. Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your account and associated information. We may need to verify your identity. Some records may remain where required for legal or security purposes, and backup copies may persist until their normal replacement cycle.
Your choices and rights
You can update available profile settings and choose what information to share with other players. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, or object to or restrict certain processing. You may also have the right to contact your local data-protection authority.
Children
Houseparty is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Security and international processing
We use safeguards designed to protect information, but no system is completely secure. Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate, whose privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post updates here with a revised date and provide additional notice when appropriate.
